How these times are calculated

These times use the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi calculation method — the convention commonly followed in India — with the hanafi convention for Asr. The method sets the sun angles that define Fajr and Isha, so a different method can shift those two times by a few minutes.

Calculated prayer times are close estimates. Mosques may round to the nearest minute or follow a slightly different convention, so treat these as guidance and confirm the adhan with your local mosque.

The five daily prayers

Muslims pray five obligatory prayers each day, their times set by the sun: Fajr before dawn, Dhuhr after midday, Asr in the afternoon, Maghrib just after sunset, and Isha at nightfall. Sunrise marks the end of the time for Fajr. Because the times track the sun, they shift a little each day and differ by location.
