Surah Al-'Alaq (The Clot)

Verses

1. ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ

   Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth

   96:1

2. خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ

   Createth man from a clot

   96:2

3. ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ

   Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous

   96:3

4. ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ

   Who teacheth by the pen

   96:4

5. عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ

   Teacheth man that which he knew not

   96:5

6. كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ

   Nay, but verily man is rebellious

   96:6

7. أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ

   That he thinketh himself independent

   96:7

8. إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ

   Lo! unto thy Lord is the return

   96:8

9. أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ

   Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth

   96:9

10. عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

    A slave when he prayeth

    96:10

11. أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ

    Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)

    96:11

12. أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ

    Or enjoineth piety

    96:12

13. أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

    Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward

    96:13

14. أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

    Is he then unaware that Allah seeth

    96:14

15. كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ

    Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock

    96:15

16. نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ

    The lying, sinful forelock

    96:16

17. فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ

    Then let him call upon his henchmen

    96:17

18. سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

    We will call the guards of hell

    96:18

19. كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩

    Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah)

    96:19
