Verses
الٓرۚ تِلۡكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَقُرۡءَانٖ مُّبِينٖ
Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading
15:1رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوۡ كَانُواْ مُسۡلِمِينَ
It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims
15:2ذَرۡهُمۡ يَأۡكُلُواْ وَيَتَمَتَّعُواْ وَيُلۡهِهِمُ ٱلۡأَمَلُۖ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ
Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know
15:3وَمَآ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَرۡيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٞ مَّعۡلُومٞ
And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it
15:4مَّا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسۡتَـٔۡخِرُونَ
No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind
15:5وَقَالُواْ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلذِّكۡرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجۡنُونٞ
And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman
15:6لَّوۡمَا تَأۡتِينَا بِٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful
15:7مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓاْ إِذٗا مُّنظَرِينَ
We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated
15:8إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian
15:9وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ فِي شِيَعِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old
15:10وَمَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him
15:11كَذَٰلِكَ نَسۡلُكُهُۥ فِي قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty
15:12لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَقَدۡ خَلَتۡ سُنَّةُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before
15:13وَلَوۡ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَيۡهِم بَابٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّواْ فِيهِ يَعۡرُجُونَ
And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it
15:14لَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتۡ أَبۡصَٰرُنَا بَلۡ نَحۡنُ قَوۡمٞ مَّسۡحُورُونَ
They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched
15:15وَلَقَدۡ جَعَلۡنَا فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجٗا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ
And verily in the heaven we have set mansions of the stars, and We have beautified it for beholders
15:16وَحَفِظۡنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيۡطَٰنٖ رَّجِيمٍ
And We have guarded it from every outcast devil
15:17إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٞ مُّبِينٞ
Save him who stealeth the hearing, and them doth a clear flame pursue
15:18وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَٰهَا وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِيَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ مَّوۡزُونٖ
And the earth have We spread out, and placed therein firm hills, and caused each seemly thing to grow therein
15:19وَجَعَلۡنَا لَكُمۡ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسۡتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ
And we have given unto you livelihoods therein, and unto those for whom ye provide not
15:20وَإِن مِّن شَيۡءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ
And there is not a thing but with Us are the stores thereof. And we send it not down save in appointed measure
15:21وَأَرۡسَلۡنَا ٱلرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَأَسۡقَيۡنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ
And We send the winds fertilising, and cause water to descend from the sky, and give it you to drink. It is not ye who are the holders of the store thereof
15:22وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ نُحۡيِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡوَٰرِثُونَ
Lo! and it is We, even We, Who quicken and give death, and We are the Inheritor
15:23وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡتَقۡدِمِينَ مِنكُمۡ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡتَـٔۡخِرِينَ
And verily We know the eager among you and verily We know the laggards
15:24وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحۡشُرُهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٞ
Lo! thy Lord will gather them together. Lo! He is Wise, Aware
15:25وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ مِّنۡ حَمَإٖ مَّسۡنُونٖ
Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered
15:26وَٱلۡجَآنَّ خَلَقۡنَٰهُ مِن قَبۡلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ
And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire
15:27وَإِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّي خَٰلِقُۢ بَشَرٗا مِّن صَلۡصَٰلٖ مِّنۡ حَمَإٖ مَّسۡنُونٖ
And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered
15:28فَإِذَا سَوَّيۡتُهُۥ وَنَفَخۡتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُواْ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ
So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him
15:29فَسَجَدَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعُونَ
So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together
15:30إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ
Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate
15:31قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبۡلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ
He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate
15:32قَالَ لَمۡ أَكُن لِّأَسۡجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ مِّنۡ حَمَإٖ مَّسۡنُونٖ
He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered
15:33قَالَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٞ
He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast
15:34وَإِنَّ عَلَيۡكَ ٱللَّعۡنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment
15:35قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرۡنِيٓ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ
He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised
15:36قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنظَرِينَ
He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved
15:37إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡوَقۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡلُومِ
Till the Day of appointed time
15:38قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغۡوَيۡتَنِي لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَأُغۡوِيَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one
15:39إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنۡهُمُ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves
15:40قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَيَّ مُسۡتَقِيمٌ
He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me
15:41إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيۡسَ لَكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ سُلۡطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِينَ
Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee
15:42وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوۡعِدُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place
15:43لَهَا سَبۡعَةُ أَبۡوَٰبٖ لِّكُلِّ بَابٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ جُزۡءٞ مَّقۡسُومٌ
It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion
15:44إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ وَعُيُونٍ
Lo! those who ward off (evil) are among gardens and watersprings
15:45ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ
(And it is said unto them): Enter them in peace, secure
15:46وَنَزَعۡنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنۡ غِلٍّ إِخۡوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ
And We remove whatever rancour may be in their breasts. As brethren, face to face, (they rest) on couches raised
15:47لَا يَمَسُّهُمۡ فِيهَا نَصَبٞ وَمَا هُم مِّنۡهَا بِمُخۡرَجِينَ
Toil cometh not unto them there, nor will they be expelled from thence
15:48۞نَبِّئۡ عِبَادِيٓ أَنِّيٓ أَنَا ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Announce, (O Muhammad) unto My slaves that verily I am the Forgiving, the Merciful
15:49وَأَنَّ عَذَابِي هُوَ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ٱلۡأَلِيمُ
And that My doom is the dolorous doom
15:50وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ عَن ضَيۡفِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
And tell them of Abraham's guests
15:51إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَيۡهِ فَقَالُواْ سَلَٰمٗا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمۡ وَجِلُونَ
(How) when they came in unto him, and said: Peace. He said: Lo! we are afraid of you
15:52قَالُواْ لَا تَوۡجَلۡ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٖ
They said: Be not afraid! Lo! we bring thee good tidings of a boy possessing wisdom
15:53قَالَ أَبَشَّرۡتُمُونِي عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِيَ ٱلۡكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ
He said: Bring ye me good tidings (of a son) when old age hath overtaken me? Of what then can ye bring good tidings
15:54قَالُواْ بَشَّرۡنَٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡقَٰنِطِينَ
They said: We bring thee good tidings in truth. So be not thou of the despairing
15:55قَالَ وَمَن يَقۡنَطُ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ
He said: And who despaireth of the mercy of his Lord save those who are astray
15:56قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ
He said: And afterward what is your business, O ye messengers (of Allah)
15:57قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّآ أُرۡسِلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمٖ مُّجۡرِمِينَ
They said: We have been sent unto a guilty folk
15:58إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
(All) save the family of Lot. Them we shall deliver every one
15:59إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرۡنَآ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلۡغَٰبِرِينَ
Except his wife, of whom We had decreed that she should be of those who stay behind
15:60فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ
And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot
15:61قَالَ إِنَّكُمۡ قَوۡمٞ مُّنكَرُونَ
He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me)
15:62قَالُواْ بَلۡ جِئۡنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُواْ فِيهِ يَمۡتَرُونَ
They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing
15:63وَأَتَيۡنَٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ
And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers
15:64فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعٖ مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱتَّبِعۡ أَدۡبَٰرَهُمۡ وَلَا يَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدٞ وَٱمۡضُواْ حَيۡثُ تُؤۡمَرُونَ
So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded
15:65وَقَضَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقۡطُوعٞ مُّصۡبِحِينَ
And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn
15:66وَجَآءَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ يَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ
And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals)
15:67قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيۡفِي فَلَا تَفۡضَحُونِ
He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not
15:68وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخۡزُونِ
And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not
15:69قَالُوٓاْ أَوَلَمۡ نَنۡهَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
They said; Have we not forbidden you from (entertaining) anyone
15:70قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِيٓ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَٰعِلِينَ
He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so)
15:71لَعَمۡرُكَ إِنَّهُمۡ لَفِي سَكۡرَتِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُونَ
By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death
15:72فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ مُشۡرِقِينَ
Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise
15:73فَجَعَلۡنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةٗ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ
And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay
15:74إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّلۡمُتَوَسِّمِينَ
Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs
15:75وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٖ مُّقِيمٍ
And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced
15:76إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers
15:77وَإِن كَانَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأَيۡكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ
And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers
15:78فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٖ مُّبِينٖ
So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see
15:79وَلَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡحِجۡرِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
And the dwellers in Al-Hijr denied (Our) messengers
15:80وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُواْ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِينَ
And we gave them Our revelations, but they were averse to them
15:81وَكَانُواْ يَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ
And they used to hew out dwellings from the hills, (wherein they dwelt) secure
15:82فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ مُصۡبِحِينَ
But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour
15:83فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ
And that which they were wont to count as gain availed them not
15:84وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَأٓتِيَةٞۖ فَٱصۡفَحِ ٱلصَّفۡحَ ٱلۡجَمِيلَ
We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with truth, and lo! the Hour is surely coming. So forgive, (O Muhammad), with a gracious forgiveness
15:85إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
Lo! Thy Lord! He is the All-Wise Creator
15:86وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَٰكَ سَبۡعٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡمَثَانِي وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡعَظِيمَ
We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an
15:87لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيۡنَيۡكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعۡنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزۡوَٰجٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَٱخۡفِضۡ جَنَاحَكَ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
Strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoin, and be not grieved on their account, and lower thy wing (in tenderness) for the believers
15:88وَقُلۡ إِنِّيٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلۡمُبِينُ
And say: Lo! I, even I, am a plain warner
15:89كَمَآ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡمُقۡتَسِمِينَ
Such as We send down for those who make division
15:90ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُواْ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ عِضِينَ
Those who break the Qur'an into parts
15:91فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسۡـَٔلَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
Them, by thy Lord, We shall question, every one
15:92عَمَّا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
Of what they used to do
15:93فَٱصۡدَعۡ بِمَا تُؤۡمَرُ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ
So proclaim that which thou art commanded, and withdraw from the idolaters
15:94إِنَّا كَفَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَهۡزِءِينَ
Lo! We defend thee from the scoffers
15:95ٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ
Who set some other god along with Allah. But they will come to know
15:96وَلَقَدۡ نَعۡلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدۡرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ
Well know We that thy bosom is oppressed by what they say
15:97فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ
But hymn the praise of thy Lord, and be of those who make prostration (unto Him)
15:98وَٱعۡبُدۡ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأۡتِيَكَ ٱلۡيَقِينُ
And serve thy Lord till the Inevitable cometh unto thee
