Surah Al-Jathiyah (The Crouching)

Al-Jathiyah is the 45th chapter of the Quran, traditionally classified as Meccan, comprising 37 ayahs. It is one of the "Ha-Meem" surahs. The chapter draws attention to signs of God in the natural world, the heavens, the earth, the alternation of night and day, and the provision of sustenance, as evidence for reflective people. It criticizes arrogance and the dismissal of revelation, and warns against following personal desire as if it were one's guide. The surah addresses those who deny resurrection and treat life as merely worldly, reminding them of accountability. Its name derives from a scene depicting every community kneeling before its record on the Day of Judgment, when deeds are weighed. The surah closes by affirming God's sovereignty over the heavens and the earth and the ultimate return of all to Him.
