- Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:28
Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest
The Quran's clearest prescription for an unquiet mind — hearts are assured, and find rest, in the remembrance of Allah.
- Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286
Allah tasketh not a soul beyond its scope. For it (is only) that which it hath earned, and against it (only) that which it hath deserved. Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget, or miss the mark! Our Lord! Lay not on us such a burden as thou didst lay on those before us! Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear! Pardon us, absolve us and have mercy on us, Thou, our Protector, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk
The anxiety of being overwhelmed is answered directly — Allah does not charge a soul beyond its capacity — followed by a dua for mercy.
- Surah Ash-Sharh 94:5
But lo! with hardship goeth ease
A promise revealed to comfort the Prophet under pressure — with hardship there is ease.
- Surah Ash-Sharh 94:6
Lo! with hardship goeth ease
The promise is immediately repeated for emphasis — indeed, with hardship there is ease — so it cannot be missed.
- Surah At-Tawbah 9:40
If ye help him not, still Allah helped him when those who disbelieve drove him forth, the second of two; when they two were in the cave, when he said unto his comrade: Grieve not. Lo! Allah is with us. Then Allah caused His peace of reassurance to descend upon him and supported him with hosts ye cannot see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the nethermost, while Allah's Word it was that became the uppermost. Allah is Mighty, Wise
In the cave with danger outside, the Prophet tells Abu Bakr 'do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us' — and tranquillity descends.
- Surah At-Talaq 65:3
And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things
For worry about the future and provision — whoever relies on Allah finds Him sufficient, and He provides from where you do not expect.
- Surah Ali 'Imran 3:139
Faint not nor grieve, for ye will overcome them if ye are (indeed) believers
A direct command against spiraling — do not weaken and do not grieve — addressed to believers at their lowest moment.
- Surah Yusuf 12:87
Go, O my sons, and ascertain concerning Joseph and his brother, and despair not of the Spirit of Allah. Lo! none despaireth of the Spirit of Allah save disbelieving folk
Yaqub, after years of loss, still forbids despair — no one despairs of relief from Allah except those who disbelieve.
