Quran Verses About Courage
Quranic courage is not fearlessness — it is trust that outweighs the threat: told 'the people have gathered against you,' the believers answered 'sufficient for us is Allah' (3:173). Cornered at the sea, Musa said, 'No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me' (26:62). These eight ayahs show where courage comes from when the odds say otherwise.

- Surah Ali 'Imran 3:139
وَلَا تَهِنُواْ وَلَا تَحۡزَنُواْ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَوۡنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
Faint not nor grieve, for ye will overcome them if ye are (indeed) believers
The rallying verse after defeat — do not weaken and do not grieve; you will be superior if you truly believe.
- Surah Ali 'Imran 3:173
ٱلَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ قَدۡ جَمَعُواْ لَكُمۡ فَٱخۡشَوۡهُمۡ فَزَادَهُمۡ إِيمَٰنٗا وَقَالُواْ حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡوَكِيلُ
Those unto whom men said: Lo! the people have gathered against you, therefor fear them. (The threat of danger) but increased the faith of them and they cried: Allah is Sufficient for us! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust
Threatened with a gathering army, faith increased — 'sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.'
- Surah At-Tawbah 9:40
إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدۡ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذۡ أَخۡرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ثَانِيَ ٱثۡنَيۡنِ إِذۡ هُمَا فِي ٱلۡغَارِ إِذۡ يَقُولُ لِصَٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَاۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَيۡهِ وَأَيَّدَهُۥ بِجُنُودٖ لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱلسُّفۡلَىٰۗ وَكَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِيَ ٱلۡعُلۡيَاۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
If ye help him not, still Allah helped him when those who disbelieve drove him forth, the second of two; when they two were in the cave, when he said unto his comrade: Grieve not. Lo! Allah is with us. Then Allah caused His peace of reassurance to descend upon him and supported him with hosts ye cannot see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the nethermost, while Allah's Word it was that became the uppermost. Allah is Mighty, Wise
Two men in a cave with hunters outside — 'do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us' — and Allah's tranquillity descends.
- Surah Taha 20:45
قَالَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفۡرُطَ عَلَيۡنَآ أَوۡ أَن يَطۡغَىٰ
They said: Our Lord! Lo! we fear that he may be beforehand with us or that he may play the tyrant
Courage begins with honesty about fear — Musa and Harun admit they are afraid of Pharaoh.
- Surah Taha 20:46
قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآۖ إِنَّنِي مَعَكُمَآ أَسۡمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
He said: Fear not. Lo! I am with you twain, Hearing and Seeing
Allah's answer to that admitted fear — 'Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.'
- Surah Ash-Shu'ara 26:62
قَالَ كَلَّآۖ إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهۡدِينِ
He said: Nay, verily! for lo! my Lord is with me. He will guide me
Trapped between Pharaoh's army and the sea, Musa's certainty holds — 'with me is my Lord; He will guide me.'
- Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:23
قَالَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمَا ٱدۡخُلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡبَابَ فَإِذَا دَخَلۡتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمۡ غَٰلِبُونَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوٓاْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
Then out spake two of those who feared (their Lord, men) unto whom Allah had been gracious: Enter in upon them by the gate, for if ye enter by it, lo! ye will be victorious. So put your trust (in Allah) if ye are indeed believers
Two men who feared Allah urge the fearful forward — enter the gate, and rely upon Allah if you believe.
- Surah Taha 20:68
قُلۡنَا لَا تَخَفۡ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
We said: Fear not! Lo! thou art the higher
