Quran Verses About Prayer
The Quran presents prayer as both anchor and answer: salah 'prohibits immorality and wrongdoing' (29:45) and exists 'for My remembrance' (20:14), while dua carries a direct guarantee — 'call upon Me; I will respond to you' (40:60). Prayer is decreed at specified times (4:103) and paired with patience as the believer's help (2:153). These twelve ayahs cover both the ritual prayer and personal supplication.

- Surah Al-Baqarah 2:45
وَٱسۡتَعِينُواْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلۡخَٰشِعِينَ
Seek help in patience and prayer; and truly it is hard save for the humble-minded
The Quran's first prescription for seeking help — patience and prayer, weighty for all but the humble.
- Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱسۡتَعِينُواْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
O ye who believe! Seek help in steadfastness and prayer. Lo! Allah is with the steadfast
Believers are addressed directly — seek help through patience and prayer; Allah is with the patient.
- Surah Al-'Ankabut 29:45
ٱتۡلُ مَآ أُوحِيَ إِلَيۡكَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَۖ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ تَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَٱلۡمُنكَرِۗ وَلَذِكۡرُ ٱللَّهِ أَكۡبَرُۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ مَا تَصۡنَعُونَ
Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo! worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, but verily remembrance of Allah is more important. And Allah knoweth what ye do
What salah does to a life — it restrains immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater still.
- Surah Taha 20:14
إِنَّنِيٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعۡبُدۡنِي وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكۡرِيٓ
Lo! I, even I, am Allah, There is no Allah save Me. So serve Me and establish worship for My remembrance
Prayer's purpose stated by Allah to Musa at the burning bush — 'establish prayer for My remembrance.'
- Surah Hud 11:114
وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ طَرَفَيِ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَزُلَفٗا مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡحَسَنَٰتِ يُذۡهِبۡنَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِۚ ذَٰلِكَ ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلذَّـٰكِرِينَ
Establish worship at the two ends of the day and in some watches of the night. Lo! good deeds annul ill-deeds. This is reminder for the mindful
Prayer at the day's two ends and the approach of night — for good deeds do away with misdeeds.
- Surah Al-Isra 17:78
أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡفَجۡرِۖ إِنَّ قُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ كَانَ مَشۡهُودٗا
Establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of night, and (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn is ever witnessed
The daily arc of salah from midday to dark, and the dawn recitation that is 'ever witnessed.'
- Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:1
قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ
Successful indeed are the believers
The opening of Surah Al-Mu'minun — certainly the believers have succeeded — before prayer is even mentioned.
- Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:2
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ فِي صَلَاتِهِمۡ خَٰشِعُونَ
Who are humble in their prayers
The first trait of the successful — humble submission (khushu) inside their prayer.
- Surah An-Nisa 4:103
فَإِذَا قَضَيۡتُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱذۡكُرُواْ ٱللَّهَ قِيَٰمٗا وَقُعُودٗا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِكُمۡۚ فَإِذَا ٱطۡمَأۡنَنتُمۡ فَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَۚ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ كَانَتۡ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ كِتَٰبٗا مَّوۡقُوتٗا
When ye have performed the act of worship, remember Allah, standing, sitting and reclining. And when ye are in safety, observe proper worship. Worship at fixed times hath been enjoined on the believers
Why prayer times are fixed — salah is decreed upon believers at specified times, in security and in fear.
- Surah Al-Baqarah 2:238
حَٰفِظُواْ عَلَى ٱلصَّلَوَٰتِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ٱلۡوُسۡطَىٰ وَقُومُواْ لِلَّهِ قَٰنِتِينَ
Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allah
Guard the prayers with care — especially the middle prayer — and stand before Allah devoutly obedient.
- Surah Al-Baqarah 2:186
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌۖ أُجِيبُ دَعۡوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِۖ فَلۡيَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لِي وَلۡيُؤۡمِنُواْ بِي لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡشُدُونَ
And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright
The nearness verse — 'I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.'
- Surah Ghafir 40:60
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدۡعُونِيٓ أَسۡتَجِبۡ لَكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدۡخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ
And your Lord hath said: Pray unto Me and I will hear your prayer. Lo! those who scorn My service, they will enter hell, disgraced
