Al-Mumit — The Bringer of Death

Al-Mumit is the One who causes death, at a time already fixed and by His decree alone. Death in the Quran is not an accident or a failure of the body but an appointment kept, and the Quran calls it something created (67:2) — not an absence but a thing with a purpose. The name reaches us through the enumeration; the action is stated throughout the Quran and paired with Al-Muhyi. Classical scholars note that the same One gives and takes, which is why neither should be met with despair.
