Al-Wahhab — The Bestower
Al-Wahhab is the One who gives freely and continually, without being asked for anything in return and without expecting any return. A gift (hiba) in Arabic is precisely a transfer with no compensation, so the name rules out any notion of exchange — nothing Allah gives is payment for anything a person has done. Classical scholars note the intensive form: the giving does not run out, and it does not stop. The du'a of 3:8 asks for mercy and appeals to this name: 'indeed, You are the Bestower'.
