Surah At-Tariq (The Nightcommer)

Verses

1. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

   By the heaven and the Morning Star

   86:1

2. وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

   Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is

   86:2

3. ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

   The piercing Star

   86:3

4. إِن كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظٞ

   No human soul but hath a guardian over it

   86:4

5. فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

   So let man consider from what he is created

   86:5

6. خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٖ دَافِقٖ

   He is created from a gushing fluid

   86:6

7. يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ ٱلصُّلۡبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

   That issued from between the loins and ribs

   86:7

8. إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجۡعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٞ

   Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)

   86:8

9. يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

   On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out

   86:9

10. فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٖ وَلَا نَاصِرٖ

    Then will he have no might nor any helper

    86:10

11. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ

    By the heaven which giveth the returning rain

    86:11

12. وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ

    And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)

    86:12

13. إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلٞ فَصۡلٞ

    Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word

    86:13

14. وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ

    It is no pleasantry

    86:14

15. إِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيدُونَ كَيۡدٗا

    Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)

    86:15

16. وَأَكِيدُ كَيۡدٗا

    And I plot a plot (against them)

    86:16

17. فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا

    So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while

    86:17
