Quran Verses About Paradise

The Quran's shorthand for Paradise is 'gardens beneath which rivers flow' (2:25) — a garden 'as wide as the heavens and earth' (3:133) with rivers of water, milk, honey, and wine that does not intoxicate (47:15). Yet its peak is not scenery: 'approval from Allah is greater' (9:72), and what truly waits is hidden — 'no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes' (32:17). These twelve ayahs tour Jannah.

  1. Surah Ali 'Imran 3:133

And vie one with another for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a paradise as wide as are the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who ward off (evil)

The scale of the prize — a garden as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous.

  2. Surah Al-Baqarah 2:25

And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) unto those who believe and do good works; that theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow; as often as they are regaled with food of the fruit thereof, they say: this is what was given us aforetime; and it is given to them in resemblance. There for them are pure companions; there for ever they abide

The Quran's recurring image — gardens beneath which rivers flow, familiar fruits, purified companions, and eternity.

Allah promiseth to the believers, men and women, Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide - blessed dwellings in Gardens of Eden. And - greater (far)! - acceptance from Allah. That is the supreme triumph

Frequently asked questions

What is Paradise like according to the Quran?

Gardens beneath which rivers flow (2:25), lasting fruit and shade (13:35), rivers of water, milk, honey, and non-intoxicating wine (47:15), no ill speech — only 'peace, peace' (56:25-26) — and above all of it, the approval of Allah, which is greater (9:72).

Who enters Paradise?

The Quran's consistent formula is 'those who believe and do righteous deeds' (2:25, 18:107) — with special mention of the patient (76:12), the righteous (3:133), and those who feared standing before their Lord (55:46).

What is the greatest reward in Paradise?

Not the gardens themselves. Ayah 9:72 lists the gardens and pleasant dwellings, then says: 'but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment.'
