Al-Badi' — The Incomparable Originator

Al-Badi' is the Originator who invents without precedent — creating what had no prior model and no pattern to imitate. The root gives bid'ah, a newly invented matter, so the name names the only One entitled to originate. The Quran calls Him the Originator of the heavens and the earth (2:117), then adds that when He decrees a matter He only says to it 'Be', and it is. Classical scholars note the two halves belong together: unprecedented invention, achieved without effort.
