Al-Khafid — The Abaser

Al-Khafid is the One who lowers — bringing down the arrogant, the tyrant, and whoever raises himself above his due. It is the pair of Ar-Rafi', the One who raises, and the two are always understood together: the same hand that elevates also brings low. Classical scholars note that this name is known chiefly from the enumeration of the names rather than stated in the Quran as a name, though the Quran describes the action throughout its accounts of past nations. History, on the Quran's reading, is this name at work.
