Al-Mudhill — The Giver of Dishonour
Al-Mudhill is the One who humbles and abases whom He wills, the counterpart of Al-Mu'izz. Like its pair, the action is stated plainly in 3:26 while the name itself comes from the enumeration. Classical scholars read the two names together as a single argument against fearing or flattering people: the one who can be humbled by Allah is in no position to grant lasting honour to anyone. The Quran's accounts of Pharaoh and Qarun are extended illustrations of this name.
