Verses
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
Whereof do they question one another
78:1عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
(It is) of the awful tidings
78:2ٱلَّذِي هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ
Concerning which they are in disagreement
78:3كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
Nay, but they will come to know
78:4ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
Nay, again, but they will come to know
78:5أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدٗا
Have We not made the earth an expanse
78:6وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادٗا
And the high hills bulwarks
78:7وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا
And We have created you in pairs
78:8وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا
And have appointed your sleep for repose
78:9وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسٗا
And have appointed the night as a cloak
78:10وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشٗا
And have appointed the day for livelihood
78:11وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعٗا شِدَادٗا
And We have built above you seven strong (heavens)
78:12وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا
And have appointed a dazzling lamp
78:13وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءٗ ثَجَّاجٗا
And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water
78:14لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبّٗا وَنَبَاتٗا
Thereby to produce grain and plant
78:15وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا
And gardens of thick foliage
78:16إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتٗا
Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time
78:17يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجٗا
A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes
78:18وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَٰبٗا
And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates
78:19وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا
And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage
78:20إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادٗا
Lo! hell lurketh in ambush
78:21لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابٗا
A home for the rebellious
78:22لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحۡقَابٗا
They will abide therein for ages
78:23لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرۡدٗا وَلَا شَرَابًا
Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink
78:24إِلَّا حَمِيمٗا وَغَسَّاقٗا
Save boiling water and a paralysing cold
78:25جَزَآءٗ وِفَاقًا
Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds)
78:26إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابٗا
For lo! they looked not for a reckoning
78:27وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابٗا
They called Our revelations false with strong denial
78:28وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبٗا
Everything have We recorded in a Book
78:29فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment
78:30إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
Lo! for the duteous is achievement
78:31حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعۡنَٰبٗا
Gardens enclosed and vineyards
78:32وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابٗا
And voluptuous women of equal age
78:33وَكَأۡسٗا دِهَاقٗا
And a full cup
78:34لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا كِذَّـٰبٗا
There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying
78:35جَزَآءٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابٗا
Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment
78:36رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۖ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابٗا
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse
78:37يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفّٗاۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابٗا
On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right
78:38ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord
78:39إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابٗا قَرِيبٗا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَٰبَۢا
Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust
